2013 Midlands Mtb Series – Round 3 presented by Bewdley Outdoors – Wyre Forest – Sunday 19th May
This is the first ever Mtb race (that we know of!) to take place in the Wyre Forest and it’s only thanks to British Cycling and Bewdley Outdoors who have worked with the Forestry Commission to enable it to take place. It’s a beautiful part of the country and we hope that it can become a regular venue, so please be courteous to all forest users, use the gel bins provided and have a great day’s racing!
Round 3 incorporates the Regional Champs, so it’s going to be a busy day of racing and podium presentations. Here’s the link to what British Cycling classify as the East and West Midlands. You don’t need to live in the Midlands to take part, it’s just that you won’t be eligible for the Champs. There is in effect 2 races in every race!
The day begins at 09.00 with the Under 13′s, Youth and Juvenille Short Track races, with the Youth and Juvenille riders all competing in 2 qualifying moto’s which determine whether they reach the A or B final. This uses a fantastic 1km course that will test the riders skills, speed and tactics. More info on the short track format can be found here on the U17′s tab.
With the first Champions of the day crowned, the 6km senior course opens for practise, before the Juniors, Vets, Grand vets and all female categories (aged 17+) race starts at 11.30. With many of the 2012 winners returning and stacked fields in many of the categories this promises to be a great race and the clover leaf design of the course makes it easy for spectators to watch the action unfold. As if more encouragement is needed, Mount Zoom have prizes for the fastest laps and there is also a special cash prime for the ladies!
At the conclusion of this race, the course re-opens for practice until the senior male categories duke it out at 14.30. As this is the Regional Champs, we also have a Singlespeed category! Remember: when the race leader of a category finishes the race, all other riders in the same category shall also finish their race when they next cross the finish line.
Alongside our series sponsors Pearl Izumi, Mount Zoom and Torq Performance, we are really pleased to announce that Bewdley Outdoors have secured sponsorship from Jack Wolfskin for Round 3 and Buff for the rest of the 2013 series. It’s fantastic to see support for XC racing, so please show them some support in return and check out their products.
Torq Performance will be in attendance for all your race nutrition needs, and Bewdley Outdoors will be ready with spares and accessories.
Please note that there is no water available on site.
No camping is available on site at this round, but there are lots of places nearby, including Hopleys.
Where is the venue?! Round 3 is located next to a recently de-classified military facility so the nearest postcode is: DY12 3AN. The entrance to the race is located between Buttonoak and Buttonbridge on the B4199 Cloggs Bank Road that heads North West from Bewdley. Look out for the yellow Midlands XC signs for directions to the race.
We’ll be keeping you updated on Facebook and Twitter over the weekend, with limited access to emails – it is the middle of a forest after all
